Below are answers to some of the most common questions clients ask before starting their hypnotherapy journey. GENERAL

WHAT IS CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY? 

Hypnotherapy is a natural, focused state of relaxation that helps access the subconscious mind to create positive changes in thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.  


HOW DOES CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY WORK? 

It uses guided relaxation and suggestion to help reprogram unhelpful patterns and promote healthier responses and habits.  


WHAT CAN CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY HELP WITH? 

It can support issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder, pain management, smoking cessation, weight management, stress, addictions, sleep problems, confidence, sports performance, exam stress (focus/productivity), and grief/bereavement.  


IS HYPNOSIS SAFE? 

Yes, hypnosis safety is paramount when the process is conducted by a qualified and clinically trained hypnotherapist and psychotherapist — you remain aware and in control at all times.  


WILL I LOSE CONTROL DURING HYPNOSIS? 

No. You can’t be made to do anything against your will. You’re always aware and can stop the session at any time.  


CAN ANYONE BE HYPNOTISED? 

Most people can be, as long as they are willing and able to focus and relax.  


WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE TO BE HYPNOTISED? 

It feels like deep relaxation — similar to daydreaming, being in the "zone", or being absorbed in a good book or movie.  


IS CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY THE SAME AS STAGE HYPNOSIS? 

No. Stage hypnosis is for entertainment, while clinical hypnotherapy is a professional, therapeutic process designed to help you achieve real change.  


HOW IS CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY DIFFERENT FROM COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOLOGY? 

Clinical hypnotherapy works directly with the subconscious mind to change automatic responses, while counselling and psychology focus more on conscious discussion and insight.  


DO I NEED A REFERRAL FROM A DOCTOR TO SEE A HYPNOTHERAPIST? 

No. You can book directly, though some people choose to discuss it with their GP first.

TREATMENT AND RESULTS

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

Typically, between 6 - 12 sessions are recommended, depending on your goals. Some issues improve in just a few sessions, while others may take longer for lasting results.


HOW LONG WILL EACH SESSION LAST?

Sessions usually last between 60 and 90 minutes.


WHAT HAPPENS DURING A HYPNOTHERAPY SESSION?

We’ll begin with a discussion about your goals, followed by a guided relaxation process. This process utilises positive suggestions and techniques that help support change, ensuring hypnosis safety throughout the experience.


WILL I REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENS UNDER HYPNOSIS?

Yes. Most people remember everything — you’re aware the whole time, just deeply relaxed.


HOW SOON WILL I SEE RESULTS?

Some clients notice changes right away, while others experience gradual improvements over several sessions.


DOES HYPNOTHERAPY REALLY WORK FOR QUITTING SMOKING OR WEIGHT LOSS?

Yes. Many people find it highly effective for addressing the subconscious patterns and triggers behind these habits, highlighting the hypnotherapy benefits.


CAN HYPNOTHERAPY HELP WITH PAIN MANAGEMENT OR CHRONIC ILLNESS?

Yes. It can reduce pain perception, improve relaxation, and support overall wellbeing.


CAN I BE HYPNOTISED ON-LINE OVER VIDEO CALL?

Absolutely. Online hypnotherapy is just as effective as in-person sessions, especially when you have a quiet, comfortable space.


IS HYPNOTHERAPY SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS?

Yes. It’s actually very effective for young people using age-appropriate techniques and with parental consent.

COST

HOW MUCH DOES A CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY SESSION COST? 

For the initial consult (1hr 30min), the cost is $200 + GST. 

For subsequent consults (1hr), the cost is $160 + GST.


IS HYPNOTHERAPY COVERED BY PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE? 

Yes, some health funds include hypnotherapy under complementary therapies — check with your insurer for eligibility to explore the hypnotherapy benefits. 


WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY? 

We kindly ask for at least 24–48 hours’ notice for cancellations to avoid a fee (50% of session cost). 


HOW CAN I BOOK AN APPOINTMENT? 

After an initial free phone consultation, you can book online, by phone, or by email. New clients are always welcome.

ARE YOU A QUALIFIED AND ACCREDITED CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPIST? 

Yes. All sessions are provided by a qualified, accredited clinical hypnotherapist and psychotherapist who adheres to strict professional and ethical standards, and is a member of the Australian Hypnotherapists Association (AHA). We prioritise hypnosis safety to ensure a secure and supportive environment for all clients. 


IS HYPNOTHERAPY CONFIDENTIAL? 

Absolutely. Everything discussed in your sessions is private and treated with the highest confidentiality.


WHAT HAPPENS TO MY PERSONAL INFORMATION OR SESSION NOTES? 

Your information is securely stored and handled in accordance with Australian privacy laws.


CAN HYPNOTHERAPY BE COMBINED WITH OTHER TREATMENTS OR MEDICATIONS? 

Yes. Hypnotherapy is a wonderful tool that complements other treatments, offering numerous hypnotherapy benefits. However, always inform your healthcare provider if you’re under medical care.
